New Augusta North Athletics Update Week of May 17th
This week’s athletics update includes information on Physicals, Covid-19 Safety Protocols, Baseball, Track, Tennis, Volleyball, Cheerleading, Soccer and Football
Physicals- This announcement concerning physicals was released last week by the district.
In years past we’ve utilized our partnerships with St. Vincent and now Franciscan Health to provide onsite physicals for student-athletes. As a result of the ongoing pandemic, the MSD of Pike Township will again be unable to provide this service. In order to participate in district-sponsored sports that begin after July 1, 2021, a current physical obtained after April 1, 2021, must be on file prior to participation. Physicals can be obtained by your child’s regular pediatrician or other local healthcare providers. Please contact the NAN athletics office at
In addition to that Pike Medical on 79th and Michigan has provided sports physicals to Pike athletes for several years. They are open until 8pm and on weekends from 11-2.
All athletes who plan to participate in a sport in the 2021-22 school year will need a new IHSAA Sports Physical. The forms are available on our website, at the athletics office or most doctor’s offices keep some on hand. Once all sections of the sports physical have been completed there are three ways to turn it in.
Incoming freshman should contact their high school athletics office for instructions on the best way to turn them in.
Cheerleading- This week begins the 3rd and final phase of the cheer tryouts, the clinics. This is where the students trying out will begin to learn the cheers and routines they will perform for tryouts. The final clinic for cheer tryouts will be Monday May 17th from 4:15-6:15. This is mandatory for all girls who want to try out this year.
The tryout dates are May 20th and 21st. Cheer Applications and physicals must be turned in by Wednesday May 19th in order to tryout. Applications have been distributed but replacements forms will be placed on the website for printing off.
Baseball- this is the final week for baseball as they will host Lynhurst Monday May 17th and travel to Southport on Wednesday May 19th to finish up their season.
The following information was provided from the Pike HS Baseball Coach, Brandon Weems regarding new Pike Baseball Travel Teams that are forming for next summer.
Tryouts will be August 1st at Pike with a rain make-up date set for August 8th. Times is still TBD.
This program will be for students who are currently in 6th (2027 grads) and 7th grade (2026 grads). We would also take a look at student-athletes who are entering 6th grade (2028 grads) if they are physically able to play up at the 13U level next summer. The teams will be coached by the High School baseball staff. The 14u team will be coached by the Varsity Staff and the 13u team will be coached by the JV Staff. I have included a link to a google form below and a pdf of the informational sheet that goes along with it.
